Caterpillar has acquired E-Ject Systems, manufacturer of towed scrapers, an ejector trailer, construction discs and a towed, sheepsfoot compactor. The manufacturing plant is located in Elkader, Iowa, and the products will continue to be manufactured there and distributed in North America. The acquisition took place in January.
Developed by a road construction contractor, E-Ject products have a strong reputation for quality, durability and productivity. The Caterpillar® distribution system and Cat® dealer product support will further strengthen the success of customers using these products.
Adding towed scrapers to the Cat product line gives customers more options for selecting the earthmoving system that is most cost effective for the application. Caterpillar offers the full range of earthmoving and hauling machines”wheel tractor-scrapers, pull type scrapers, rigid frame trucks and articulated trucks. In some projects, pull type scrapers can complement wheel tractor-scrapers as the pull type machines work in soft areas that would hinder the high production capacity of wheel tractor-scrapers.
The two base models of scrapers have heaped capacities of 17 and 22 cubic yards. More than 60 Caterpillar parts are used in the construction of each of the scrapers. Each scraper is available in two configurations”standard configuration with two tires and an advanced design with four tires. Each of the advanced design scrapers features a parallel linkage, which provides an adjustable cutting edge angle to optimize loading, and a walking beam suspension for superior ride in the cut and on the haul road.
The scrapers are designed for Caterpillar crawler tractors and ChallengerTM MT800-Series and MT900-Series special application tractors. Many Cat dealers sell and support Challenger agricultural tractors in addition to Cat track-type tractors. Because of those synergies, some Caterpillar dealers offered E-Ject products prior to the acquisition.
The construction discs, compactor and trailer broaden the line of quality products available through North American Caterpillar dealers.
Another E-Ject design, the E-45 Ejector Trailer, is made to be towed by a 740 articulated truck tractor, and it carries 45 cubic yards. It offers high flotation and high capacity for large earthmoving jobs in soft underfoot conditions.
