Conexpo 08 – Booth 15927 – South Hall Perkins parades 400 Series flagship engine

Perkins Engines is showcasing its most powerful engine in the widely acclaimed 400 Series range at this year™s Conexpo. The 404D-22TA – a 2.2 litre, 4-cylinder, turbocharged unit with air charge cooling produces 49.2kW (66bhp) at 2800 rpm from a compact package size of only 0.25m3, an eight per cent uprate compared to the successful 404D-22T model.

The unit not only flexes its muscles in terms of power and torque 208Nm at 1800 rpm – but has impeccable green credentials, meeting all the requirements of EC Stage IIIa and EPA Tier 3 off-highway emissions which came into effect this year for the sub 75kW segment.

Flexibility when it comes to installation is a major benefit for manufacturers. The side mounted turbocharger makes minimum impact on the package size so easing fitment. Engine options include high and low fan positions, a choice of cooling fans including a special low noise version and electronic controlled governing.

In the field the 404D-22TA delivers on its promises, with better NVH, reliability and durability thanks to its improved governor and compliance testing which has shown 6,000 hours durability.

Low operating costs, a feature of the entire 400 Series range, are maintained with oil and filter changes set at 500 hours as standard, a frugal sfc and the peace of mind of a two-year warranty offering. With OEMs wanting to create “big machine ability” in the smallest of packages, the 404D-22TA certainly satisfies that requirements in terms of power, noise, reliability and cost of ownership.
