LOUISVILLE, KY., March 21, 2007 Kenworth Truck Company today introduced the new Kenworth T270 Class 6 model at the Mid-America Trucking Show.
The Kenworth T270 will be available as a straight truck with a low-profile chassis with 19.5-inch wheels and tires. Target markets are towing and recovery operators, service trucks, general construction and landscape firms, and dry, refrigerated and side-curtain van operations. The new T270 Class 6 model is scheduled to begin production this summer.

The lighting system and stylish hood and grille provide an appealing appearance for the new T270. We expect that customers will welcome a Kenworth Class 6 truck that can be operated by non-CDL drivers in the growing Class 6 market.
The Kenworth T270 medium duty conventional is available up to 26,000-pound GVWR and comes equipped with air or hydraulic brakes. The T270 features new halogen projector low beam headlamps with 30% more light down the road and three times longer life than sealed beam headlamps. An optional High Intensity Discharge configuration provides even more headlamp light and life. The new hood made of sheet molded composite (SMC) offers enhanced fit and finish, while a new hood assist device and 90-degree hood tilt opening provides superior access to the engine compartment for ease of service. A one-piece chrome or painted bumper and new Metton® quarter fenders provide additional durability and impact resistance.
The T270 offers the PACCAR PX-6 engine rated to 325 hp and 750 ft-lb of torque. The T270 Class 6 is available with an 8,000-pound front-axle and 16,000-, 17,000- and 18,000-pound rear axle ratings. Customers can select manual or automatic transmissions.
Inside, the Kenworth T270™s ergonomically-friendly dash with a wrap-around instrument panel has large easy-to-read, glare-free gauges. The fully trimmed cab is quiet with no doghouse, which helps to greatly reduce interior noise. Standard features include power door locks, passenger-side electric windows (optional on the driver™s side), and DayLite® doors with peeper window. Drivers will also appreciate the 50-degree wheel cut for excellent maneuverability. Key options include a telescoping and tilting steering wheel to accommodate even the tallest drivers, workstation with two 12-volt power ports for laptops or printers, optional corner windows to aid in backing up and negotiating tight spots, and electronic shift module.
