Construction software for Topcon’s GRS-1 rover

gpsLIVERMORE, Calif.– September 10, 2009 – The new GRS-1 handheld RTK GNSS receiver now supports Pocket 3D software. Pocket 3D Version 9.0 is a Windows Mobile® 6.1 release intended only for use with the GRS-1 and is designed to be used as part of a GPS network solution.

Tony Vanneman, TPS construction products marketing manager, said, “Pocket 3D Version 9.0 makes the GRS-1 a complete construction tool.  It includes a grade indicator when performing a ‘surface check’ or when staking out an alignment.  The user can select a tri-color grade indicator similar to the one seen in the 3D-MC software that gives real-time updates of cut and fill values to the design surface alignment.”

The GRS-1 RTK rover features:

— The smallest, lightest RTK rover available;

— 1 cm RTK accuracy;

— Dual frequency GPS + GLONASS receiver;

— Integrated cell phone (GSM, CDMA);

— Bright, colorful touch screen display; and

— Windows Mobile® 6.1.

Pocket 3D Version 9.0 for the GRS-1 also provides a new project file storage system that allows design files to be stored in one project file.  “This will make organization of design files easier while also making import and export with 3D office and 3D-MC a one-step process,” Vanneman said.

The GRS-1 handheld has an on-board GSM or CDMA modem. In addition to standard network RTK support via an external GPS receiver’s cellular modem, Pocket-3D will connect directly to an NTRIP server via the GRS-1’s on-board modem.   An add-on radio for standard radio applications is also available.
