Caterpillar ranked in Newsweek’s top 100 greenest companies

Caterpillar earned the number 73 spot in Newsweek‘s list of the top 500 greenest companies in America. In the Industrial Sector, Cat was listed in 5th place.

Cat’s ranking on the list was a result of the company’s goals to reduce the carbon footprint of its equipment significantly by 2020. The company plans to reduce GHG emissions of its entire product line by 20 percent and reduce absolute GHG emissions from its facilities by 25 percent by 2020.

Newsweek ranked companies based on four scores: green score, environmental impact score, green policies and performance score and reputation survey score. Cat received a higher-than-average score in the green policies and performance category with a score of 56.26, higher than the average score of 39.91. The company’s reputation survey score of 48.44 earned Cat second place on the Industry Goods reputation survey score list.
