First Word – September 2009

Football season is now in full swing and, at least in this part of the country, high school and college games pretty much dominate the weekends until early December. In many cases, victory or defeat is determined by the team’s performance in the 4th quarter, the point in the game where the poorly prepared teams lose motivation, run out of energy, or just flat give up and quit.

In a couple of weeks, we’ll be in the 4th quarter of the 2009 game, one of the toughest we have played in our careers. Unfortunately, many have already suffered losses this year but I firmly believe those who have prepared their team for the final stretch will eventually emerge as winners.

Are you ready for your 4th quarter? Is your team motivated, trained and determined to win the 2009 game?

If you’ve cut your marketing or advertising players this year, it’s time to call them off the bench and put them in the game. If your fans don’t know who you are or have forgotten that you exist, it’s pretty hard to get their attention. Winning teams understand that marketing in a down economy leads to gains in their market share, not to mention their bottom line.

If you’ve been slacking in practice/training, it’s time to work two-a-days if you’re going to win. It’s no secret that the harder you work, the luckier you get.
And last but not least, never, ever give up. We all have people depending on us and our teams to win!
