Starting under $10,000, the Ranger 500 is Polaris’ most affordable UTV yet. But what do buyers really get at that price point? And how does it perform?
In Equipment World’s latest Test Run, Chief Editor Jordanne Waldschmidt put the Ranger 500 through its paces around her property and on the roads to see where it shines — and where it could use some improvement.
Powered by a 28-horsepower 567-cc engine, the Ranger 500 can hit speeds around 40 mph. It has a 1,000-pound payload capacity and 1,500-pound towing capacity with a standard 2-inch hitch receiver for transporting heavy loads. The gas-assist dump box has a 300-pound capacity, and the factory-installed winch can pull up to 2,500 pounds.
While the budget-friendly machine doesn’t come with a lot of frills, it does offer more than you might expect from a base model, including a roof, front bumper, chassis-integrated plow mount-plate, LED headlights, door nets and ample interior storage compartments.
To get a closer look at the Ranger 500, key features and specs and all-around capability, check out the video above. We also identify the features we’d add or modify to enhance its usability and performance.
