BOMAG has upgraded its BC 473 EB-5 soil compactor for large earthworks construction sites and mining landfills with a new, more powerful engine and cab improvements.

The 57,541-pound compactor now runs on a 300-horsepower Cummins L9 diesel engine, a boost from the 281.6-horsepower MTU. The company says the power increase also comes with better fuel efficiency as it can run at lower rpms.

For operators, BOMAG made multiple improvements in the cab:

  • 7-inch touchscreen display — easier to read with more operating parameters and fault code diagnostics.
  • 7-inch monitor for high-resolution feed of the rearview camera. An optional 10-inch camera display is also available.
  • Ergonomically designed joysticks — Left joystick controls direction and travel. Right joystick controls blade up and down and optional blade tilt.
  • Dozer blade sensor system — displays elevation position of blade on touchscreen.
  • More legroom for operators.
  • Electronic foot pedal — replaces mechanical design for more efficient, instant throttle response without the delay of previous designs.
  • Electric-powered engine hood — enables opening and closing without starting the compactor.
  • Electric-powered side mirrors — adjustable from cab.
  • Safety beacon light now standard.
  • Standard LED work lights now deliver increased illumination of the work area.
  • Optional winter package with hydraulic heating system.

The new upgrades and Cummins engine have also been added to BOMAG’s BC 473 RB-5 and BC 573 RB-5 landfill models and the BC 473 RS-5 shovel.
