Construction materials prices slip slightly in June, up 1.5% annually

The average cost of materials used by the construction industry plus items consumed by contractors such as diesel fuel fell 0.1 percent in June, according to Associated General Contractors of America’s latest analysis of data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

However, compared to June of last year, construction materials prices were up 1.5 percent.

Meanwhile, residential construction materials fell 0.2 percent in June and were up 1.9 percent from June 2012. Nonresidential construction materials were flat from month to month and up 1.2 percent for the year.

Here’s a listing of all the materials pulled from the BLS by the AGC:

• steel mill products, -0.7% for the month and -8.1% from June 2012
• copper and brass mill shapes, -0.5% for the month, and -3.8% from June 2012
• aluminum mill shapes, -0.1% for the month, and -2.5% from June 2012
• diesel fuel -0.6% and 3.6% for the month, from June 2012
• concrete products, -0.1% for the month, and 3.1% from June 2012
• gypsum products -0.2% for the month, +16% from June 2012
• lumber and plywood dropped 3.3% for the month, +9.9% from June 2012
