Top HNTB executive Paul Yarossi elected ARTBA chairman

Paul Yarossi, a professional engineer with 40 years of experience and the president of HNTB Holdings Ltd, has been elected 2011-12 chairman of the American Road & Transportation Builders Association (ARTBA).

The election was announced during the association’s national convention, held Oct. 2-5 in Monterey.

Yarossi first joined HNTB, one of the nation’s top engineering, architecture, and construction management firms, in 1973 after graduating with a civil engineering degree from Manhattan College.

Yarossi serves on HNTB’s board of directors and is responsible for overseeing and directing the firm’s governance, capitalization strategy, compliance and audit functions, as well as its external and government relations. Previously, he was chair of HNTB’s aviation practice, and officer-in-charge for several HNTB offices in New York and New Jersey.  He was instrumental in formulating the firm’s training and development programs.

At the heart of Yarossi’s agenda as ARTBA chairman is to lead the transportation design and construction industry push on passage of a robust, multi-year federal highway and transit investment bill in 2012. The current law, known as SAFETEA-LU, expired in September 2009. Yarossi also said he would launch a long-term public education and industry image campaign that spotlights the industry’s innovative practices on transportation projects and the benefits to the taxpayers.

Among other key items on Yarossi’s agenda: implement the recommendations of the ARTBA Strategic Planning Committee to help ensure the association becomes a clearinghouse for its member firms, state chapters and other industry groups seeking information about successful local and state transportation investment strategies, research, legislation and advocacy programs; expand the association membership base; and develop new programs to keep the industry’s young executives fully engaged in the association’s advocacy activities.

Yarossi has been a leader in ARTBA for nearly a decade, serving as senior vice chairman, first vice chairman, vice chairman at-large, chairman of the Transportation Design and Construction Innovation Advisory Committee, and co-chairman of the ARTBA SAFETEA-LU Reauthorization Task Force.
