Granite Construction announces new chairman and director for the board

Granite Construction Inc. announced the election of Claes G. Bjork as the new chairman of the board of directors effective June 7. He replaces William H. Powell who has retired.

Bjork was the chief executive officer of Skanska AB, Sweden, from 1997 to 2002. Prior to that, he held various executive and management positions within Skanska and served as chairman of Scancem Cement.

“Mr. Bjork’s experience as a global infrastructure leader, his deep industry knowledge, as well as his deep understanding of Granite’s business and competitive environment made him the ideal candidate to serve as the company’s next chairman of the board,” said Granite President and Chief Executive Officer James H. Roberts in a press release.

In addition, Jeffrey J. Lyash, president and chief executive officer of Ontario Power Generation, has been appointed to Granite’s board of directors effective June 6. Lyash holds a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Drexel University, and was honored with the Drexel University Distinguished Alumnus Award in 2009. He has held a Senior Reactor Operator License from the NRC and is a graduate of the U.S. Office of Personnel Management Executive Training Program, the Duke University Fuqua School of Business Advanced Management Program, and the University of Toronto Rotman School of Business Corporate Director Program.
