Texas road worker killed after being struck in hit and run

road work cones constructionA road worker in Texas died Tuesday after he was struck by a possibly drunk driver that then fled the scene.

According to KIII News, Texas Department of Transportation contract worker Justin Mazone was weed eating grass in the center median on Highway 181 in Corpus Christi when a Nissan Sentra drove into the median.

The car struck and killed Mazone before hitting a concrete barrier and several guard posts.

Roman Alexander, the 21-year-old driver, fled the scene along the access road, but was followed by a witness until police arrived where the car had broken down.

Alexander told police that he hit a guardrail but couldn’t explain the smashed windshield or the blood inside the vehicle.

He was charged with intoxication manslaughter with a vehicle and accident involving death.
