Jim DeMint, a junior senator from South Carolina, has resigned to head up the conservative think tank, The Heritage Foundation. DeMint has served as a senator since 2005 and was one of the Tea Party movement leaders.

DeMint was also a ranking member of the Senate Subcommittee on Housing, Transportation, and Community Development.Fellow U.S. Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) issued a statement about DeMint’s resignation in which he noted the following:

“Throughout his career Jim has been a tireless warrior for conservative principles and a passionate advocate for limited government in Congress and across America.“I congratulate Jim and look forward to continuing to work with him as we fight for the causes and beliefs that we as conservatives hold dear.”
