Boom lift overturns, killing worker on Massachusetts jobsite

Updated Aug 25, 2015

A worker in Massachusetts was killed last week when the boom lift he was working from toppled over.

According to a report from the Taunton Gazette, 48-year-old Kevin Miranda was part of a crew performing an inspection of a large smokestack for Skyline Contracting and Roofing when the machine flipped over August 17.

The smokestack is located behind a Catholic elementary school in Taunton. The Gazette reports the lift was being operated on a slope.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating as to whether any safety violations contributed to Miranda’s death.

The lift was owned by NES Rentals. A spokesperson with the company expressed condolences to Miranda’s family and told the Gazette the company is cooperating with OSHA and the local authorities involved in the investigation.
