ICUEE 2009 adds more demos, speakers

The International Construction and Utility Equipment Exposition (ICUEE) 2009 has added new safety demos and “smart grid” education speakers to the show’s lineup.

Show attendees will have access to three outdoor safety demos that complement the co-located iP Safety Conference and Expo’s safety training courses.

The Live Line Demo will help attendees become more aware of electrical hazards in their work and the protective steps to take when working around electricity. The Pole Top/Fall Protection demo demonstrates fall prevention and rescue measures for utility workers. The Confined Space demo uses a simulator to teach professionals working in underground spaces proper prevention and rescue procedures.

ICUEE 2009 added new “smart grid” education speakers to the show’s “Getting Smart about the Smart Grid” presentation on October 6. Eric Lightner, Director of the Smart Grid Task Force in the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Electricity, will add to the discussion of modernizing the electricity grid, a federal goal that is backed by more than $4 billion in stimulus funds.

Lightner will join Mark Hura, Smart Grid Commercial Leader for GE Energy, as well as representatives from Cisco Systems, Duke Energy, GridWise Alliance and National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA) in the interactive discussion on smart grid technology and development.
