Geotechnical engineers to discuss dam and levee safety

The American Society of Civil Engineers Geo-Institute is holding its New Peaks in Geotechnics conference in Denver from February 18 through 21, to discuss the condition of the nation’s levees and dams and the impact they have had on public safety. Seminars will focus on lessons learned from past events, such as Hurricane Katrina and earthquakes, as well as new research.

Dr. David E. Daniel, president of the University of Texas at Dallas and chair of the ASCE External Review Panel, plans to give the keynote address with special focus on Hurricane Katrina and the New Orleans levee system.
