OSHA, Altec alliance to improve utility construction safety

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration has formed an alliance with Altec Industries, a manufacturer of utility construction equipment, in order to address the safe operation of cranes, digger derricks and aerial devices, with a focus on reducing fall and electrocution hazards.

“The collective expertise of Altec and OSHA can create a significant impact on improving the safety and health of workers in the industry,” said Jonathan Snare, acting OSHA administrator. “This alliance gives us the tools to achieve positive gains toward that end and also helps encourage employers and workers to commit to safe work practices.”

Through the alliance, training programs will be developed in English and Spanish, and Altec will help OSHA develop ways to communicate safety information to the utility construction industry through print and electronic media.
