Ram edges out Chevy for number two spot in pickup sales

In the highly competitive pickup market, Ram recently showed that having the best sales incentives can still prove to be the most effective way to sell trucks.

For the first time in five years, Ram claimed the number two spot last month in pickup sales, besting Chevy by more than 2,400 trucks, according to USA Today. That’s a 29 percent gain for FCA’s truck division compared to its September 2015 sales.

Ram’s average incentives increased 29 percent last month to $7,082 per truck. By comparison, GM raised incentives on Silverado by 21 percent, or $5,647 per truck.

But what about the number one pickup seller in the nation? Ford actually decreased incentives on its popular F-Series by less than 1 percent to $5,173 per unit. Nonetheless, it easily led the pickup market last month with a 35.5 percent share of overall truck sales.

Though Ram edged out Chevy for the number two spot in sales, it was ten percentage points behind Ford with a 25 percent claim on the market in September.
