When Nissan announced a surprising 5-year/100,000-mile bumper-to-bumper truck warranty this week, Ram Truck quickly responded.
Nick Cappa, Ram Truck communications manager, told Hard Working Trucks, “Ram has the unique distinction of being America’s longest-lasting pickups, a fact we communicate in nearly all of our consumer-facing media channels to highlight Ram’s unmatched real-world durability.”
Ram earned the title of America’s longest-lasting pickup through data collected by third-party vehicle-registration authority IHS Automotive.
Ram offers a 3-year/36,000-mile bumper-to-bumper on all of its trucks; a 5-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty on gas engine trucks and vans; and a 5-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty on its diesel engine trucks and vans.
Truck warranties are similar between Ford, GM, Honda and Toyota with all OEMs offering a bumper-to-bumper pickup warranty of 3-years/36,000-miles.
Powertrain warranties are nearly the same as well: Ford, 5 years/60,000 miles; GM, 5 years/100,000 miles; Honda, 5 years/60,000 miles; and Toyota, 5 years/60,000 miles.
Nissan’s truck warranty had also been 3 years/36,000 miles until the automaker announced on Monday that it had extended its bumper-to-bumper coverage to 5 years/100,000 miles.
The new warranty applies to all 2017 Titan V8 gasoline-powered models and diesel and V8 gasoline-powered 2017 Titan XD models, including both 4×4 and 4×2 drive configurations, in Crew Cab and recently revealed Single Cab models.
The 2017 Titans and Titan XDs are scheduled to begin arriving at Nissan dealers nationwide later this month.
“We’re pleased to now offer the same confidence-inspiring protection as our commercial vehicles for our entire range of 2017 Titan and Titan XD full-size pickups,” said Fred Diaz, division vice president and general manager, North America Trucks and Light Commercial Vehicles, Nissan North America. “The new bumper-to-bumper coverage shows customers that Nissan stands behind the quality of its vehicles, including the ones that are subject to the hardest use.”
Nissan introduced what it calls its “America’s Best Commercial Van Warranty,” also 5 years/100,000 miles, in June 2014 as a demonstration of confidence in its expanding light commercial vehicle lineup. Nissan reports that the results have been very positive, with Nissan NV Cargo and Passenger van sales up nearly 10 percent in 2016; NV200 cargo van sales have increased 17 percent through July.
