Fun Trucks Father’s Day: Ask for the impossible

The Father’s Day theory here among the Fun Trucks Friday dads on the staff is that we should always ask for something impossible for our special day, and we won’t be disappointed when we get the annual XL Hawaiian print shirt instead.

So this year we’re asking for Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles’ Amarok ’Power’ pickup, demonstrated recently on the shores of Lake Wörthersee in Austria where VW fans get together every year. (Might as well ask for a trip to Europe, while we’re at it – and we have to: the Amorak pickup isn’t sold in the USofA.)

Anyway, the Amorak Power is the perfect lake party rig: The cargo bed is equipped with a 5,000-watt portable DJ set-up that’s even louder and more obnoxious than your kids and will annoy folks on the opposite shore.

Specifically, the equipment is designed around the Allen & Heath Xone:92 with Pioneer CDJ900NXS inputs. Sound output comes via two Void Acoustics Impulse 3t speakers, custom created for Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles. With the similarly adapted VA Stasys Xair subwoofer, the ’Amarok Power’ will set off seismographs a state or two over. The VA micro 6 monitors have been integrated into dedicated functional sound boxes, and VA loudspeakers are driven by amplifiers from MC².

All of the components have been designed in such a way that when assembled they perfectly fill the cargo bed of the Amarok SingleCab and as a ’compact cube.’

As for the truck part, the ’dynamic grey’ metallic paint underscores the technical, cool look, while the use of micro glass flakes intensifies the sheen. Wing mirror covers and 22-inch alloys are painted in ’gunmetal’.

Additional touches include orange decals on the doors and sills and orange brake callipers. Bi-xenon headlights will brighten the scene into the wee hours.’

The interior features black and ’Orange Power’ nappa leather, with black Alcantara faux-suede covering the steering wheel, bucket seats and door trim.

So enjoy your Father’s Day breakfast beer in bed, fellas, then go mow the yard.
