Rockin’ Rough Country

Wire line logging and gas well perforating take Josh and Marcus Moseley (left to right), of Well Service of Alabama through some pretty rough terrain. So they updated their 2008 GMC 2500 Sierra 4WD trucks to keep them moving through their off-road environment. Both trucks came with the Duramax/Allison package and the cousins have added 6-inch suspension lifts for better ground clearance, 20-inch wheels and 35-inch tires (Nitto Mud Grabbers and Toyo A/T Open Country), fender flares, an Amp Research bed step tucked away under the tailgate, Line-X bed liners and toolboxes.

SHOP ON Wheels

South Texas Outfitters of San Antonio, Texas, recently completed this repurposing of two identical International Terrastar trucks for a local concrete drilling and cutting company. The trucks carry all the equipment, blades, water and tools for the crews. The rebuild included custom toolboxes built to customer specs, a generator, 250-gallon water tank, ladder rack, custom paint, Tommy Lift and custom lighting.

DRIVE BY Surveying

Tired of trudging around jobsites with your 4-wheeler and a survey pole? Topcon Position Systems has come up with a device, its IP-S2 Mobile Mapping System, that you can mount on a truck or van and make a 3D GPS guided survey map at 60 mph. The IP-S2 uses a GNSS/GPS receiver, an inertial measurement unit and CAN Bus or external wheel encoders to dial in positioning information plus a high speed laser scanner to record building, stockpile or utility positions. And if you like, a high speed digital camera can be added providing 360 degree views at fixed distances. We’ll have more on this system in a future issue of Equipment World.
