Dongfeng Cummins to build Cummins Westport engines in China

Cummins Westport and Dongfeng Cummins Engine Company signed a memorandum of understanding April 22 to enter into a supply agreement through which DCEC would manufacture CWI natural gas B-series engines in China. CWI would supply the natural gas-specific components for the B Gas International engine to be built in Xiangfan. Manufacturing is expected to begin in early 2005. Hugh Foden, president of Cummins Westport, said local assembly of the BGI product is an important element of the company’s growth strategy in China. Dongfeng Cummins Engine Company, established in 1996, is a joint venture between Cummins and Dongfeng Automobile Co.
