Photo courtesy Jackson Area Chamber of Commerce.The 142-year-old Honeymoon Covered Bridge in Jackson, New Hampshire, is being repaired after being closed to traffic since July 2018.
The historic bridge was closed after it was struck by vehicles twice in a month’s time. The first incident occurred when a minivan crashed into one of the bridge’s supports and a truss on June 30. A few weeks later on July 23, a truck truck the bridge and damaged the roof on July 23.
The Wichita Eagle reports that repair work began Monday and will take approximately three weeks to complete.
The bridge, which is 121 feet long and 26.5 feet wide, was built in approximately 1876 by Charles Austin Broughton and his son Frank, who lived on the family’s dairy farm on the east side of the Saco River. Town records show that the sidewalk was added in 1930.
