Monroe County, Indiana, which once boasted as many as 14 covered bridges, lost its last covered bridge to fire in 1976, but it will soon have a new one by reconstructing a vintage 1885 covered bridge over Beanblossom Creek.

According to U.S. News, the new bridge will be the Cedar Ford Bridge, a vintage 1885 covered bridge that was acquired by the county and placed in storage in 1975.

Monroe County public works director Lisa Ridge told the news agency that the $1.6 million bridge project will include the replacement of the bridge’s siding and roof, which were damaged during the 40 years it was in storage.

Crews are scheduled to begin building the dismantled bridge this spring.
