A Florida teen has discovered a new method for creating biofuel, according to our sister site, Total Landscape Care.
Evie Sobczak, a 16-year-old from St. Petersburg, Florida, engineered a way to turn algae into biodiesel. Her method, which does not use chemicals, involves growing the organism, then extracting the oil to use as biofuel.
Sobczak introduced her new method in her Algae to Oil via Photoautotropic Cultivation and Osmotic Sonication project, which won first place at Intel’s International Science and Engineering Fair.
Her method creates 20 percent more oil than current biofuel technologies.
