Today, Komatsu and General Electric announced the creation of a new company with a focus of creating next generation mining equipment and solutions.
Dubbed Komatsu GE Mining Systems, the new company will be owned jointly by Komatsu and GE with each company owning 50 percent. The company will be located at the GE Transportation facility in Erie, Pennsylvania with operations beginning in April.
The company is the extension of an existing relationship between Komatsu and GE Mining whereby GE supplied electric drive systems for Komatsu electric dump trucks used in open-pit mines.
Initially, the new company will focus on developing solutions to increase customer productivity and safety for underground mines, according to the announcement.
