Tilt-Up Concrete Association adds new presentations to convention lineup

The Tilt-Up Concrete Association (TCA) – a non-profit international organization that serves to expand and improve the use of Tilt-Up as the preferred construction method – has added two new presentations to the educational portion of their Annual Convention being held in Kansas City, Mo. from Sept. 28 – Oct. 1.

The first new offering is titled “Joplin Tornado Damage: Comparisons and Implication to Tilt-Up Construction.” Presented by Thomas F. Heausler, PE, SE at Heausler Structural Engineers, the presentation will display photographs, comment on structural performance and draw conclusions and comparisons to Tilt-Up construction, as well as describe the Missouri SAVE Coalition volunteer experience. Following the tornado that struck Joplin, Mo., Heausler spent two days in the aftermath of the tornado documenting damage with photographs and visual operation. His second day was spent as a volunteer with the Missouri SAVE Coalition providing visual inspection and assessment as a Deputy for the City of Joplin Building Department placing “Unsafe,” “Restricted Use,” or “Safe” placards on buildings.

Delivered by Kimberly Kayler of Constructive Communication, Inc. and David Tomasula of CON/STEEL Tilt-Up Systems, the second new presentation focuses on crisis communication. Kayler and Tomasula will discuss the importance of all companies having an effective crisis communication plan in place, elements of a crisis communication plan and how to effectively manage the negative attention. In this presentation, the speakers will provide valuable lessons for responding during and after a crisis situation.
