Workers at Volvo Trucks North America’s New River Valley plant celebrated Memorial Day with the annual Rolling Thunder-Ride for Freedom rally on May 23.
Employees and others from the Dublin, Virginia, community gathered at the United Auto Workers Local 2069 union hall for a memorial ceremony before beginning the ride to the capital.
Volvo’s VN670 took its place in the convoy featuring a custom mural highlighting the D-Day memorial in Bedford, Virginia, and the 65th anniversary of D-Day. Employees at the New River Valley plant worked with UAW Local 2069’s Veteran’s Committee to come up with the truck’s design.
Each year, veterans make the trip to Washington, D.C., for the motorcycle rally, which raises money to help veterans in need as well as paying tribute to service men and women. The event includes 3 days of ceremonies to honor fallen or missing soldiers. This year marked the 22nd annual rally.
