Vero Beach, Fla.-Copper wire

Location: Vero Beach, Florida
Theft Date: October 15
Value of stolen items: $4,500

Three men who are in jail in connection with stealing $700 worth of copper tubing from a Vero Lake Estates home site have been linked to an earlier theft of $4,500 worth of wiring from Florida Power & Light Co., authorities say.

Brevard County detectives say William Paul Hampton, 31, Larry Hughes, 22, and Buck James Fendley, 21, broke into FPL’s plant, under construction on Fleming Court in Micco, Florida, sometime Oct. 15.

Brevard agents are accusing the trio of removing 548 feet of copper and other wiring from the plant. Detectives have obtained arrest warrants charging them with burglary and grand theft.

Authorities also have warrants charging a fourth man, 24-year-old Anthony B. Strickland, with the same charges from the same incident. Officials say he may live in southern Brevard or Indian River County, and are urging anyone with information about him to call Crimeline at 1-800-423-TIPS.
