Construction industry employment increases in August

According to the U.S. Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics, construction industry employment increased by 17,000 jobs in August, after growing by 6,000 jobs in July and decreasing by 4,000 jobs in June. In August, total construction employment was 7,521,000, a modest increase after five months of little change.

Total nonfarm payroll employment increased by 128,000 in August, bringing the U.S. unemployment rate to 4.7 percent, 0.1 percent lower than the July rate. According to the bureau, total construction employment of 144.6 million and the employment-population ratio of 63.1 percent were essentially unchanged in August.
