Caterpillar has unveiled its new 824G Series II wheel dozer featuring more power, a high-capacity cooling package and an ergonomically designed operator station. Powered by a six-cylinder Cat 3406E diesel engine, the 824G Series II delivers 339 net horsepower using electronic injection and a turbocharged, air-to-air aftercooler design. An upgraded cooling system uses what Cat calls an Advanced Modular Cooling System for better cooling capability and reduced service time. The planetary downshift transmission offers four forward and four reverse speeds with electronic controls to enhance performance and durability. Steel front fenders have replaced the non-metallic design of previous models. In the cab, the steering has been integrated with transmission controls to reduce fatigue. The blade tip switch is controlled with a button on the control handle that allows the operator to tip the blade without taking his hand from the controls.
