PCA seeking nominations for bridge awards

If your company has constructed a concrete bridge you’re particularly proud of, you can enter it in the Portland Cement Association’s 10th biennial Bridge Awards Competition.

All types of bridges — highway, railway and pedestrian — in which the basic structural system is concrete are eligible for the program, which is co-sponsored by Roads and Bridges magazine. PCA is encouraging entries for cast-in-place or precast concrete bridges with short, medium or long spans. Newly constructed, reconstructed or widened structures qualify for the competition as long as they are essentially completed between June 2004 and March 2006 and are located in the United States or Canada.

Submitted bridges will be judged by professionals including representatives from the Federal Highway Administration and state departments of transportation. Public and private organizations may submit as many bridges as desired. Entries are due March 31, and the winner will be announced at the American Concrete Institute fall annual convention held Nov. 5-9, 2006.
