December tractor sales ended the year just as they have trended all year, below (and at times well below) the pace seen in 2021.

For the year, sales also were trending at the five-year sales average, according to the December Flash Report from the Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM).

AEM says sales in the under 40HP segment (the largest sales segment by total units) December 2022 sales were nearly 27 percent lower than December 2021. For the year, sales were off nearly 20 percent compared to 2021. Sales were soft in the 40HP to under 100HP segment (down 9.3 percent) and the 100HP+ segment (down 2.7 percent). For the year, sales in the 40HP to under 100HP segment were down more than 10 percent, but the 100HP+ segment did outpace 2021 sales by 11.3 percent, AEM says.

Sales in the 4WD segment were up 32.7 percent over December 2021, but were down 1.7 percent for the year.

Overall, AEM notes total tractor sales were down 18 percent in December 2022 compared to December 2021, and were down nearly 15 percent for the year, compared to 2021 sales.
