Leica Geosystems, Hexagon purchase Mikrofyn

In an attempt to further expansion into the construction market, Leica Geosystems, distributor of spatial information products and services based in Switzerland, and the Hexagon group recently purchased Mikrofyn A/S, a company headquartered in Denmark.

Mikrofyn is a European leader in supplying machine automation, as well as laser leveling and alignment equipment for the construction and civil engineering industries. The company’s products include automatic and manual machine control systems for excavators, graders, bulldozers and paving machines, in addition to a line of laser rotators, laser receivers and pipe lasers.

“The acquisition of Mikrofyn is part of Hexagon’s growth strategy and commitment to global expansion within machine automation technology,” says Ola Rollén, president and chief executive officer of Hexagon.

In the last several years, Mikrofyn has shown annual growth rates of 30 percent. The company will be consolidated within Hexagon Measurement Technologies and will immediately contribute to both Leica Geosystems’ and Hexagon’s earnings.

Rollén added that Mikrofyn, the largest European manufacturer of one- and two-dimensional solutions for construction machine automation, will “complement Leica Geosystems’ product range of GPS, TPS and laser-based machine automation systems.”
