Employee Buys Out Enywhey Services During a Downturn – And It Pays Off Big Time

Alex Johnson, owner of Enywhey Services in Williston, North Dakota, is one of Equipment World’s 12 finalists for the 2022 Contractor of the Year Award.

The early 2000s drew a stampede of crews and rigs to the Bakken shale oil basin. But by 2016, the oil market went bust.

The original owners of Enywhey Services, an oil and gas facility construction and maintenance company, wanted out.

Johnson had been working for the company for a couple of years. He had developed his skills and a reputation for hard work and decided to roll the dice and buy out the original owners.

Since then, Johnson has built the company into an $8 million to $10 million enterprise with as many as 15 employees.

In this video, he shares his advice for others looking to start their own construction company amid trying times.

The Equipment World Contractor of the Year program, now in its 23rd year, has been sponsored by Caterpillar since its inception. It recognizes contractors who display the highest standards of business acumen, equipment management expertise, attention to safety and community involvement.
