Paladin MX Series Brush Cutter compact excavators

A year after being acquired by Stanley Black & Decker, Paladin has launched its first brush cutter for compact excavators.

The new MX Series brings similar performance of the company’s GroundShark for skid steers and compact track loaders to excavators from 3 to 8 metric tons.

“Not only were there requests from the distribution channels for an offering, but it was also something we identified with mini excavators,” says Steve Wright, product director for attachments. “It’s a growing segment, and we wanted to start offering more products in that mini excavator segment than we currently do.”

The excavator attachment can cut through brush and trees as thick as 6 inches in diameter. The company says it is ideal for such tasks as managing ditches, banks, areas that require cutting over a fence and rail rights of way.

A heavy-duty hinged debris shield retracts when the blades are engaged to allow for deeper cutting. Fore and aft curtain shields help reduce flying debris. And when operators are ready to get out of the cab, the cutter automatically stops rotating 15 seconds after the excavator has been turned off.

Cutting blades are reversible and made of AR400 steel. The attachment comes with Paladin’s bolt-on mounting system that can be configured to a variety of coupler systems. Wright says rather than build mounts for each excavator manufacturer’s machines, Paladin designed an adapter plate that can fit a range of excavators within a tonnage class. The same plate can also be used for other attachments, including buckets and hydraulic hammers.

Other features include a direct-drive hydraulic motor with heavy-duty bearing housing and powder-coat finish to prevent rust.

Paladin offers three models in the MX Series, one each for 3-, 6- and 8-metric-ton excavators. Wright says each model also has optional hydraulic-fluid flow requirements to match the cutter to the excavator’s available flow.
