John Deere has introduced a new stump shredder attachment for its mid- and large-frame skid-steer and compact track loaders.
The new SS30 Stump Shredder is designed for landscaping and construction jobsites and can remove in just one pass stumps ranging in size from 8 inches up to 28 inches. The company notes that larger stumps can be removed with multiple bores.
Deere says it has designed the SS30 to be safer and more productive than competing stump shredders. The attachment has a low-speed, high-torque auger planetary drive that keeps flying debris to a minimum. And despite this lower speed, Deere contends that the SS30 still removes stumps faster than conventional grinders.
Here’s how the attachment works: A hardened pilot cone draws the auger into the stump while 0.75 inch-thick, AR500 steel blades efficiently cut the stump. Operators can bore up to 20 inches into the ground to remove stump feeder roots and the SS30 reduces stumps to a neat chip pile, making cleanup simple.
Deere says carbide tool replacement parts are not needed for the attachment, and maintenance is only required every 1,000 stumps.
The SS30 stump shredder is designed for use with Deere’s 320G, 324G, 330G and 332G skid steers, and its 325G, 331G and 333G compact track loaders.
