Stihl announces $78.4 million expansion

Power equipment manufacturer Stihl has announced it will expand operations in Virginia Beach, Va., with a capital investment of more than $78.4 million.

Slated for completion in 2007, the two-phase expansion will create more than 150 new jobs, part of an overall corporate plan to add up to 300 new positions in the next year. In phase one, a new 60,000-square-foot facility will house manufacturing operations for Stihl guide bars, which the company hasn’t built before in the United States. In phase two, the company will spend $58.4 million to expand one warehouse by 88,000 square feet and convert other existing warehouse space into manufacturing room for additional crankshaft and machining operations.
