Contractor of the Year award recognizes father-son contracting team

Father and son contracting team Gil and Mike Egurola, owners of Diggum Excavating, Tuscon, Ariz., won the fourth annual Equipment World Contractor of the Year Award March 6 during a ceremony at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas.

Diggum Excavating was chosen from 12 finalists who were selected on the basis of their growth over the past five years, recommendations they received from clients and vendors and contributions they have made to the construction industry. The Contractor of the Year award is the first and only national award of its kind.

“This is a great honor for us, and we thank Equipment World and all the sponsors involved,” Gil Egurola said.

Bob Wahrenburg of The Cat Rental Store, an award sponsor, said it is important to recognize the contractors who represent the “entrepreneurial spirit.”

“These contractors operate businesses that employ hundreds of people, often teaching new skills and creating new job opportunities,” Wahrenburg said. “The finalists we chose are the best at what they do. They are exemplary in growing their businesses profitably, safely and honorably in what’s been a difficult (economic) climate.”

All award finalists received a four-day trip to Las Vegas and attended a NASCAR Nextel Cup race courtesy of Caterpillar, sponsor of the #22 Caterpillar Dodge Intrepid. Award winners Gil and Mike Egurola will be featured on the cover of Equipment World magazine’s May issue.

The Contractor of the Year contest is sponsored by the Cat Rental Store, CatUsed.com, Wacker and Equipment World magazine.
