Cummins offers used-engine warranty program for off-highway equipment

Cummins announced Thursday it will offer a two-year/2,000-hour warranty program for pre-owned midrange and heavy-duty mechanical engines that pass a general fitness inspection.

Cummins will offer its Encore Pre-Owned Industrial Engine Coverage plan for pre-owned B3.3, B3.9, B5.9, C8.3, L10, M11 and N14 agricultural and construction engines that pass a visual inspection, as well as fluid- and oil-sampling tests.

“Offering extended coverage on top-quality Cummins engines will help alleviate much of the uncertainty customers associate with buying pre-owned equipment,” said Dave Crompton, executive director of industrial business at Cummins.

Coverage costs will range from $400 for B3.3 and B3.9 engines to $1,000 for an N14.

In order to qualify for coverage, engines must have an initial in-service date within five years of the coverage purchase date and fewer than 5,000 total hours of operation.

Encore coverage includes the following service and maintenance guarantees.

Year one:
– 1-year/1,000-hour coverage
– 100 percent parts
– 100 percent labor
– Progressive damage to engine
– All consumables not reusable due to covered failure
– $200 deductible

The program excludes all wear, tear, abuse and normal operational expenses, including maintenance items. Maintenance items included in year one coverage are: air compressor, fuel pump, turbocharger and water pump.

Year two:
– 2-year/2,000-hour coverage on select major component castings and forgings
– Cummins pays for all parts and labor needed to repair damage to the engine resulting from a covered failure
– 100 percent parts on covered components
– 100 percent labor on covered components
– Progressive damage to engine
– All consumables not reusable due to covered failure
– $200 deductible
