Potain, a Manitowoc brand, has a new top-slewing crane available in North America, the MDT 99e, which is the first model to carry its CCS Evolution control system.
Operators will have a max capacity of 5.51 tons with the MDT 99e (the second-lowest max capacity in Potain’s MDT lineup), plus a max horizontal reach of 180.4 feet and max jib-end capacity of 1.32 tons.
Potain bills the MDT 99e as a compact option for tight urban jobsites, supported by simplified design that makes installation easier. The company provided easy access to the job and counter-jib from the base, and a component design optimized for transport.
Potain’s new CCS Evolution system builds on its previous Crane Control System for improved movement, precision and operator control. CCS Evolution includes a touchscreen and interface to simplify commissioning and maintenance and minimize downtime.
Other technology found on-board the MDT 99e include Potain Plus software for optimizing speed and capacity of lifts; the Top Site anti-collision system; Power Control for optimized performance when power supplies are variable; and Ultra View Cab.
Other key features on the MDT 99e include:
- A 25 LVF 13 Optima variable-frequency winch.
- Compatibility with existing 1.2 m K masts and L masts.
- Rigged in permanent fourfall reeving.
Potain’s new interface in the MDT 99e allows operators to work more comfortably, lowers the risk of errors and enables faster commissions, the company says. The control setting personalization features mean quicker setup times, improved productivity and more streamlined performance in rental fleets where multiple operators might share one crane.

Contractors can also use the MDT 99e in two alternative designs, one meant for mostly work on congested urban jobsites and another for contractors requiring regular assembly with helicopters.
