StreetRhymes

Jay Shells does street art in New York. This one he calls Rap Quotes.

He takes song lyrics that mention a specific part of town and puts up a sign with those lyrics at that spot. There’s a visual/audio/emotional sort of connection built, especially if you know the songs.

It’s probably something any number of street artists could do in any sung-about big city. (Doesn’t have to be rap either. The lyrics in Shells’ work have hard edges.)

He doesn’t have permission of course. And he expects the signs to be stolen in a matter of hours, maybe days, a week tops. Unless of course the authorities do it first. And he’s fine with that.
