Flooding from Tropical Storm Harvey, which made a second landfall August 30 on the Louisiana-Texas border, has led to road closures in southwestern Louisiana due to flooding.
According to the National Weather Service, Harvey has set a preliminary record, with more than 50 inches of rain, the most rainfall measured from a single storm in the continental United States. Another 6 to 12 inches are expected to the north and east of Houston from far east Texas into southwestern Louisiana, the service says as of 8 a.m. August 30.
The storm has led to more than 500 road closures due to flooding in southeastern Texas.
According to the Louisiana Department of Transportation & Development, the following roads are closed because of high water as of August 30:
- LA 1077 – Between the start of LA 1077 and LA 21; LA 22 (near Madisonville).
- LA 397 in both directions –Between LA 27 and LA 14 (10 miles south of the Lake Charles area).
- US 90 in both directions –Between LA 397 (near Lake Charles) and LA 383 (Iowa).
- LA 101 in both directions –Between LA 14; Joe Primeaux Road and Jeff Davis Road.
- LA 394 in both directions –Between Gene Nothnagel Road and Red Fish Lane.
- LA 91 – Between Myers Road and Clement Road (near Estherwood).
- LA 713 in both directions –Between Coach Road and Parish Road P-8-42 (near Gueydan).
- LA 3147 in both directions – Between the start of LA 3147 and Front Ridge Road.
- Island Road – At LA 665 near Montegut.
- LA 316 –Between Old Ferry Road and Romero Street (2 miles west of the Houma area).
- Interstate 55 in both directions – Between US 51 and Exit 7: Old US 51; Ruddock (6 miles north of the Laplace area). Nearby service road closed.
