Citing increasing commodity costs, Navistar has announced the company will raise prices of International trucks. The increase will vary by model, up to $1,600 per truck, and will take effect immediately.
In 2008, steel has increased 100 percent, aluminum by 22 percent, platinum by 32 percent, copper by 23 percent and crude oil by more than 40 percent, according to company officials.
Navistar has been working to absorb the additional costs, says James L. Hebe, senior vice president, North American Dealer Operations, Navistar. “However, global commodity spikes are affecting all manufacturing and we finally, regretfully, must now share those additional costs with the customer,” he says.
