Volvo Construction Equipment shared this step-by-step process of how a model is made, using examples from their L250H, L150H and L220G loaders. Starting off with Volvo-supplied CAD drawings, a China-based model maker produces a tooling model made from ABS resin material. After the tooling model is approved, the model producer makes a painted prototype with additional details, which goes through another round of approvals. During mass production, some parts may need hand crafting and painting. After assembly, the model is boxed, ready for Volvo customers, dealers and collectors.
