Komatsu launches D155AX-8 crawler dozer with performance, fuel efficiency boosts

Komatsu has launched the latest addition to its lineup of crawler dozers with the new D155AX-8, touting increased performance thanks to a new blade along with a Tier 4 Final engine.

The new machine has an operating weight of 89,300 pounds and is powered by a Komatsu SAA6D140E-7 engine. The Tier 4 Final engine integrates selective catalyst reduction (SCR) and reduces emissions using diesel exhaust fluid (DEF). The engine also incorporates an electronic control system as well as Komatsu’s variable geometry turbocharger (KVGT) and an exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve to manage temperature and air flow.

Komatsu says the D155AX-8’s achieves a 10-percent increase in fuel efficiency over previous models thanks to the lock-up torque converter which transfers engine power directly to the machine’s automatic transmission.

In terms of operation, Komatsu says the the dozer’s smooth ride is made possible by a hydrostatic steering system along with a K-bogie undercarriage that keeps alignment between the rollers and links. The dozer also features counter-rotation while in neutral.

The dozer is equipped with Komatsu’s 12.3 cubic-yard Sigmadozer blade. Komatsu says this blade design increases blade capacity and production over a Semi-U blade in the same way a spade shovel does so over a flat shovel. The Sigmadozer blade digs and rolls material at the center of the blade and requires less energy to push through the soil. The blade alone brings a 15-percent increase in productivity, Komatsu says.

Inside the cab, a high-capacity air suspension seat with heat is standard as is a rear-view camera and a 7-inch LCD monitor for quick adjustments and service diagnostics.

The D155AX-8 is also equipped with Komatsu’s Komtrax telematics service and comes with Komatsu Care complimentary scheduled maintenance for 3 years or 2,000 hours.
