At the Work Truck Show in Indianapolis, Ford teased the upcoming release of its new vocational trucks with a couple of announcements.

First, Ford says the cab of both the 2016 F-650 and F-750 is 45 percent quieter at idle and 25 percent quieter while driving than the previous generation models.

Ford attributes the change to its integrated powertrain on the F-650/F-750.

In May of last year, the automaker announced that it was dropping the Cummins ISB 6.7 liter engine currently offered in its trucks, offering instead its own 6.7-liter Power Stroke V8. And now, Ford says the PowerStroke is 35 percent quieter than the Cummins.

Ford also decided to begin manufacturing the truck themselves, ending an agreement with Navistar, making the company the only medium-duty truck maker that designs and builds its own diesel engine and transmission combo.

No doubt handling the development of both the engine and truck body all the way through manufacturing helped Ford engineers drop all those decibels.

The second announcement was the expansion of the automaker’s telematics service, now named Ford Telematics, to the F-650 and F-750. The system is powered by Telogis and consists of cloud-based applications that handle everything from reporting idle time and emissions, to scoring driver performance and helping to manage fuel consumption.

The system is already available on F-150 and Super Duty pickups and will be introduced for the F-650 and F-750 when the trucks launch this summer.
