Association of Modified Asphalt Producers annual conference planned for Feb. 1-3 in Savannah, Ga.

The Association of Modified Asphalt Producers (AMAP), a St. Louis-based international association dedicated to the development, production and use of modified asphalts has announced that it will host its 11th annual conference, Feb. 1-3, in Savannah, Ga., at the Hyatt Regency Savannah.

The event is open to anyone involved, interested or invested in the highway building industry. This year’s conference will focus on municipality-owned streets and roadways and highlight the importance of rural highways. Attendees will gain insight on the pros and cons of the economic stimulus package as it relates to the asphalt paving industry, get an update on the availability of global raw material supplies and hear industry perspectives on the use of modified asphalt in the changing economic environment. State department of transportation officials will also be on hand to discuss their experiences with modified asphalt use in the specific geographic regions.

During the conference, AMAP will also induct another honoree into its Paving Hall of Fame, which is designed to pay tribute to one individual each year who has dedicated his or her career to the improvement of highway materials and construction. This year, the organization will recognize Byron E. Ruth, PhD, P.E. and Professor Emeritus at the University of Florida, who has been a faculty member of University’s Civil and Coastal Engineering Department since 1970.

The first recipient of AMAP’s David R. Jones IV Scholarship will also be presented with his monetary award during the conference. University of Akron senior, Eric Coffman, was selected from a pool of highly qualified candidates to receive the scholarship based on his outstanding academic record, recent internship accomplishments and overall interest in pursuing a career in asphalt technology.

“Our 11th annual conference is just around the corner, and we’re looking forward to another great event,” said Bob Berkley, executive director of AMAP, in a press release. “From the great location we’ve selected to the excellent line-up of speakers who are participating this year, the conference is one that those with interests in the asphalt industry won’t want to miss, and we encourage everyone to mark their calendars to join us for this special event.”
