Video: Taking the Fear Out of Construction Technology

Lots of folks who like working in the dirt were playing outside in the sandbox when they were children while most of the other kids were inside playing video games. So it’s understandable that when it comes to technology, many in the construction industry are wary – and even scared.

In this episode of The Dirt, Britton Lawson, director of construction technologies for Veit, a contractor in Minneapolis, seeks to help those in the industry lose their fear of new technologies that can make their businesses more profitable.

Put simply, if companies don’t evolve with the innovations that can increase productivity and efficiency, they’re going to be left behind, Lawson says. But at the same time, new technology can be expensive. And how can contractors know if they are really getting their money’s worth out of it?

To dispel those fears, Lawson lays out the benefits of technology and also points out the types that will give contractors the most bang for their buck. (His answers might surprise you.)

He also discusses when companies should start to branch out into new technologies and which technologies to start with. He recommends finding a technology advocate within your firm and discusses the traits that person should have.

So if you’re ready to take your construction business to the next level, check out this week’s episode of The Dirt.
