WV highway department awards $3.65 million contract to replace bridge in Clay County

The West Virginia Department of Highways (WVDOH) announced that it has awarded a $3.65 million contract to Kokosing Construction Incorporated, to replace the Camp Creek Bridge (PFC Abraham G. Sams Memorial Bridge) in Clay County.

Kokosing was the low bidder on the project, but according to a press release from the WVDOH, it will be eligible for additional compensation, if it is able to finish the project and open the bridge to traffic before the listed contract completion date of Nov. 9, 2017.

The 91-year-old bridge was closed to vehicular traffic in September 2016 after sustaining damage during the June 2016 flood. Significant deficiencies were found during a special damage inspection on June 27, right after the flood, and during a routine bridge inspection on Sept. 1. The bridge is open only to pedestrians and is inspected every three months to ensure it is still safe for foot traffic.
